Documentary family photography with heart - based in Owen Sound, Ontario.
Hi! I’m Sophie, and I don’t just want to take your picture. I want to know you.
Yeah, okay. I’m a huge sap.
But…
I actually think that’s what makes me good at what I do. For me, being a family photographer is about so much more than just taking pretty pictures. I have a big heart, and I’m nostalgic to the core.
The photo above is of my dad in 2022, at our family cottage in Nova Scotia. When I took that photo, I didn’t think there was anything special about it. He was just sitting, admiring the ocean and sipping his morning tea. It was a seemingly ordinary moment, but something made me want to photograph it.
Fast forward to today: My parents are selling the cottage. They’re getting older, and they’re finding the upkeep to be more and more challenging. Suddenly, this photo I have of my dad, that was taken in a place full of wonderful memories, is one of my most cherished possessions. Bonus fun fact: The photo was taken with my dad’s old Olympus OM-1 film camera, that he bought while traveling in Japan in the 70s.
I’ve spent my life collecting my family’s most precious memories in the form of photographs. Things are changing so fast, and I want to hold on to every. Tiny. Moment.
Get to Know Me
-
I was born in British Columbia, where I spent my first 10 years, before my family moved across the country to Nova Scotia. I’ve lived in Ontario since 2019, and I now live in Owen Sound with my husband. We’re surrounded by so much beauty here, and I feel lucky every day.

I was diagnosed with ADHD at 17.
20 years later, with the right combination of therapy and medication, I would say I’ve learned to live with it. Even though it can be frustrating at times, I believe that certain key ADHD attributes also make me a better photographer and artist (creativity, spontaneity, and emotional sensitivity, to name a few!)

I’ve had approximately a thousand different hairstyles. Every colour, every length, every style. I even shaved my head once for fun - would highly recommend (seriously, it feels amazing).

Yep, the kind with the spray tans and sparkly bikinis. It was wild, and I’ll never do it again. And no, you can’t see photos ; )
Fine Art Portraiture & Still Life Photography
During the pandemic, I began taking self portraits as a means of self-expression, and as a kind of personal diary. I still make time for creative projects as much as I possibly can. It is vital to my growth as an artist and as a human.
I always stress the importance of play - in my photography sessions, in life, everywhere. Self portraits are a way for me to reflect, to try new things, and most importantly, to have fun.
